Project Title: Transformation Puppet Part 1
Medium: kinetic mask puppet – Sculpture project
Grade Theme: Metamorphosis & Transformation

Overview: Students will learn to construct a kinetic mask puppet utilizing recycled egg cartons, paper, masking tape, and paint. In the second session of the sculpture unit, students will assemble their marionettes and add embellishment and detail.
Art Skills: sculpture, construction, cutting, taping, painting, gluing
Process: Students will crumple, rip and cut paper and recycled egg cartons and tape together a head shape out of recycled cardboard materials.  When all holes and joints are taped tight, they will paint them entirely in one color.  Sculptures will be left to dry and be stored until Part 2 when we return, next month to embellish and expand the form into a puppet. 
Materials: newspaper, tape, acrylic paint, felt, hot glue, watercolor paper, watercolor pencils
Tools Provided by Classroom: Scissors, egg cartons

Description Summary: Today students had a special art lesson making transformation puppets.  They made heads out of paper and tape and bodies out of sticks, paper, and felt. When the art teachers return, next month, we will add eyes, clothes, and other fun embellishments.
