Project Title: Metamorphosis Silkscreen Printmaking

Grade Theme: Metamorphosis & Transformation
Overview: Students will print a base color, then create resist plates of a creature that can metamorphose, and then print with the resist image showing the creature.
Art Skills: Printmaking, silkscreen, paper cutting
Process: Students first run a pass of ink onto their final paper. Then they draw a creature that metamorphoses in its life cycle onto smaller paper. They cut the image out with spaces between features. Finally, using professional printmaking materials, students place their cutouts on their paper and ink over, revealing the image.

Description Summary: Today students had a special art lesson making silkscreen prints of creatures that go through metamorphosis. They discussed the history and function of printing, drew and cut a resist “plate” and finally, printed their creatures in bright colors.
