Oil Resist Abstract Watercolor

Project Title: Oil Pastel resist Abstract Watercolor Painting  

Medium: Drawing and Painting – Abstract Project  

Theme: Pollination 

Overview: Students will create abstract paintings using oil pastels, liquid watercolor  and salt  

Art Skills: Color, texture, pattern, mark making 

Process: Students will make marks and shapes with oil pastels then brush on liquid  watercolor and sprinkle with salt. Students will then observe how the colors mix and  react with the salt to form interesting combinations of color and texture. 

Materials: Mixed Media Art paper, oil pastels, liquid watercolor, brushes, salt

Tools Provided by Classroom: no materials needed for this day

Description Summary: Today students had a special art lesson making abstract  paintings. They drew on their paper with oil pastel to resist the watercolor then painted  liquid water color and sprinkled with salt. Students then watched the fascinating chemical  reaction of salt with the watercolor and observed the chemical reaction patterns that  formed.
